Making the Most of Your Senior Portraits

Congratulations! Your much anticipated senior year has arrived! From the first day of class to the final bell, this year will be full of many meaningful moments and events. Senior pictures are one of those milestone moments. Your senior pictures are a great way to kick off your senior year!

My goal is to capture the spirit of this year for you with a mix of sophistication, style and class and to showcase your unique personality. The better you are prepared for your senior photo session, the more you will love looking back at your portraits remembering this year.

So, What Next?

  1.  Choose the type of session that you want.

  2. Get your outfits together:

*You should bring 3-4 different looks. We may not shoot in all of them, but it’s always great to have options. Bring both causal/comfy and formal/dressy. Pinterest is a great tool to help you get ideas.

*Pick clothes that represent the best of you and reflect your personality. Wear what you love and are comfortable in. Questions that can help you find the right outfits are:

  • What colors are you drawn to?

  • Which colors look great with your eyes, hair, skin?

  • What kinds of outfits just feel like “you”?

*If you are involved in activities bring your team jerseys and sport’s equipment, dance line costume or other items related to your activities and hobbies. Your activities are a big part of your high school experience!

Feel free to send me photos of what you plan to wear if you have any questions. I’m happy to help you plan what to wear and provide additional suggestions.

A little planning goes a long way. I will take close-ups and full-length photos, so be sure to plan your outfit from head to toe!

A Few Things to Think About

Color & Texture

Have a little fun with layers and different textures! Look around your closet for complimentary colors or shades of the same color to bring some contrast and style to your look.

A few things to keep in mind about patterns and color….the camera doesn’t really like thin stipes, they can often look pixelated. As far as colors, bold colors and warm tones are always great. If one of your outfits has a pattern, I recommend that your other outfit has a solid color piece.

Accessories

Accessories are important because they complete your look and communicate something about your unique personality. Adding things like earrings, necklaces, bracelets, watches and hats make ALL the difference!

Preparation tips:

  • Iron your clothes and transport on hangers to prevent wrinkles.

  • Shoes/boots and socks should go well with each outfit.

  • Try on outfits before your session. It’s important that everything fits well and that you feel comfortable in your outfits.

  • A few days before make sure to stay hydrated. This will help your skin to look its best.

  • Avoid getting sunburned. It’s important to look and feel your best!

  • If you are planning on getting a haircut, plan on doing so about two weeks in advance.

  • Get your sleep! The best way to take great photos is to make sure you are well rested. Get a great night’s sleep the night before your session.

  • Ladies: Practice your hair and makeup and bring makeup and hair products for touch-ups. If you want painted nails, paint the night before or have them done professionally.

  • Guys: shave the day of your appointment.

  • HAVE FUN!  \While you may be a bit nervous before your sessions, don’t worry! I will help put you at ease and I will guide you through poses, expressions and locations. I promise that you will have fun!
